Weekend key to Lancer teams’ hopes

Five Lancer teams will compete in post-season play this weekend, starting with the men and women suiting up for the Ontario University Athletics track and field championships, February 21 and 22 at the St. Denis Centre.

The women’s team is ranked fourth in the nation and the men are ranked third leading into the two-day meet. Admission for the meet is $15, with a youth and senior rate of $12. Day passes are available for $10, $8 for youths and seniors, $5 for students.

The men’s hockey squad is coming off a quarterfinal sweep of the York Lions to meet the Guelph Gryphons in a three-game OUA West semi-final series, which opens Thursday, February 21. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. at Windsor Arena, 334 Wyandotte Street East. The series will head to Guelph for game two on Saturday, February 23, and return to Windsor on Sunday, February 24, for a third game if necessary. Tickets are $8; $5 for youths and seniors.

The women’s basketball team hopes to follow a first-ever undefeated regular season with a title defence. The Lancer will host the division semi-finals at the St. Denis Centre on Saturday, February 23. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.

The men’s basketball team also earned a quarterfinal bye with a 16-5 record and will host the lowest seed coming out of the first round match-ups at 8 p.m. Saturday, February 23. Admission to the double-header is $12, with a youth and senior rate of $8.
