Women’s basketball is the only Lancer team still in the playoff hunt, after a 73-51 victory Saturday over the McMaster Marauders earned it the right to host the Ontario University Athletic championship this weekend, as well as a berth in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport title tournament in Regina, March 15 to 17.

It will be Windsor’s fifth straight trip to the national final eight. The squad has won the Bronze Baby trophy the past two years.

First, though, the Lancers will play the Carleton Ravens for the provincial championship on Saturday, March 9, at the St. Denis Centre.

In Saturday’s west division win, Jessica Clemençon and Bojana Kovacevic led all scorers with 16 points apiece; Korissa Williams, with 12 points, was the only other Lancer in double digits. For more, read “Lancers book their ticket to Regina.”

In men’s basketball, the Lancers dropped the OUA bronze medal game 78-64 to the Lakehead Thunderwolves, Saturday in Toronto. Lien Phillip notched 15 points and 13 rebounds to lead his team in a losing cause.

Windsor was relegated to the consolation stream after dropping a 78-58 decision to the Ottawa Gee-Gees in the semi-final round Friday night. Read the full story, “Lancers defeated by Thunderwolves in OUA bronze,” at goLancers.ca.

The men’s hockey squad was swept out of the post-season Saturday, losing 5-3 to the Waterloo Warriors in the second game of their best-of-three west division final series. Christian Steingraber, D.J. Turner and Brett Oliphant accounted for the Windsor scoring.

Waterloo had earned a 3-2 overtime win in game one Wednesday at Windsor Arena. Read “Men’s hockey season comes to an end with loss to Waterloo.”
