After being denied their fourth consecutive Ontario University Athletics women’s basketball championship a year ago, the Windsor Lancers had something to prove to their provincial rivals this season.

Led by the all-star trio of Jessica Clemençon, Miah-Marie Langlois and Korissa Williams, the Lancers finished the regular season with an unblemished 21-0 record and breezed through a pair of playoff matchups.

Now they will host the Carleton Ravens for the OUA title on Saturday, March 9. The game starts at 7 p.m. at the St. Denis Centre. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students, seniors and youth.

Clemençon was the top scorer on the highest scoring team in the OUA. The four-time first team all-star led the Lancers and finished second in the OUA in scoring with 17.9 points per game.

The Lancers also boast the defensive player of the year in Langlois. Now a two-time OUA West defensive player of the year, she boasts tenacity on both ends of the court that saw her produce 12.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 3.2 assists per contest. Williams was named a second team all-star this season and averaged 15.1 points per game.

The Carleton Ravens enter the OUA championship after playing to a 15-5 record in the regular season to finish second in the OUA East. Carleton knocked off the defending OUA champion Ottawa Gee-Gees to claim the east, and earned a berth to the CIS Women’s Basketball Final 8.

The Lancers and Ravens met once during the regular season, a 59-53 Windsor win on home court. In that game, Carleton’s Alyson Bush led all scorers with 18 points in a losing effort, while Windsor received 16-point performances from Clemençon and Williams plus 12 points off the bench from Jocelyn LaRocque.

Saturday’s game will be televised on Cogeco Cable 11 and can be seen on the web at Lancers TV. Regardless of the outcome, both Carleton and Windsor will continue their seasons at the Canadian Interuniversity Sport Final 8 tournament, hosted by the University of Regina from March 15 to 17.
