Basketball MVP honoured as Ontario’s best

Ontario University Athletics named Lancer women’s basketball player Korissa Williams its female athlete of the week for the period ending March 17, fresh off her honour as most valuable player of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport championship tournament.

The third-year guard earned 14 points and eight rebounds en route to being named player of the game Friday in the squad’s 56-46 win over the Ottawa Gee-Gees. Williams helped the Lancers stamp their ticket to the CIS final, posting 19 points and grabbing four offensive boards in Saturday’s semifinal victory over the Calgary Dinos. In their hardest test of the season, the Lancers overcame the hometown favourite Regina Cougars 66-57. Williams contributed 13 points, four rebounds and five steals in the narrow win.
