Graduate Student Society celebrates under sunny skies

The Graduate Student Society was blessed with perfect weather Tuesday at its annual welcome barbecue held on the lawn of the new GSS digs on the northeast corner of Sunset and Fanchette. Organizers planned for up to 1,500 guests to enjoy a free lunch of burgers and falafal while enjoying music and a parade of door prizes.

GSS VP External, Ali A Haran, a PhD candidate in Electrical Engineering, said the group was thrilled with the turnout at this year's event, which he describes as the "biggest ever." Haran said students were getting a preview of GSS cuisine with local restaurant Mazaar catering lunch. The restaurant will be the food service provider for the new GSS facility which is expected to open within a few weeks.

Haran said the newly designed area will give graduate students better places to meet and collaborate.

"It's a much bigger, better space," he said. "It's a great design with the things students need,  like printing and copying facilities."
