Year-end reception celebrates achievement in arts, humanities, and social sciences

It is important to celebrate the successes enjoyed in the last year, Nancy Wright said Wednesday as she prepared for her first end-of-year awards reception as dean of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

“This semester has been filled with significant achievement,” she said. “Those accomplishments are not only in teaching and research, but by our students.”

Trevor Pittman, concert producer for the School for Arts and Creative Innovation, received a meritorious service award for his contributions to student success. He said the annual reception builds community within a large, diverse faculty.

“Coming together like this creates a sense of spirit and collegiality that is essential to making the university work well,” he said.

History professor Natalie Atkin received the meritorious service award for full-time faculty, and other individuals recognized include:

  • Cheryl Collier (political science) received the Kathleen McCrone Teaching Award;
  • Jens Hanson (music) received a career achievement award;
  • Larry Kulisek (coordinator of interdisciplinary programs) received an award for student counselling.
