The third annual Open Education Week runs through Friday, and the Office of Open Learning invites the campus to a series of free events exploring different aspects of open education.

Open education is an emerging global movement aimed at making education freely accessible to all people, which is revolutionising the way in which we conceptualise education and knowledge, says Nick Baker, acting director of the Office of Open Learning.

“The internet and global access to information have irreversibly changed the way that knowledge is distributed in the world,” Baker says. “Open education builds on this idea by seeking to make high quality learning tools and experiences available to everyone. It is a huge movement that involves millions of people worldwide, with thousands of instructors and universities contributing to free and open sharing of knowledge with the global community.”

The Office of Open Learning is facilitating three workshops this week that explore open education from the perspective of students, instructors, and the public. The workshops will help you find, use and create your own open educational resources, and discuss open education within the UWindsor and Canadian contexts.

The first, held Tuesday, explored how open educational resources can enhance instructors’ teaching and learning. The remaining workshops include:

• Building Your Brand: how ePortfolios and other web 2.0 tools can enhance your image online.
  Wednesday, March 12, 11 a.m.
• An Open Discussion of Open Education
  Thursday, March 13, 2 p.m.
