Lancer men earn provincial hockey championship with 3-2 win over McGill

The Lancer men’s hockey team won the Ontario University Athletics title Saturday with a 3-2 victory over McGill in the 103rd Queen’s Cup final in a packed South Windsor Arena.

It is UWindsor’s first provincial title since 1998 and only the second in program history. Lancer netminder Parker Van Buskirk was named Saturday’s player of the game after finishing with 50 saves. Evan Stibbard, Mac McDonnell, Kenny Bradford scored for the Lancers.

Windsor has been seeded third in the national championship tournament that runs March 20 to 23 in Saskatoon. It will open the round-robin portion in a pool with no. 2 Acadia Axemen, winners of the Atlantic University Sport championship, and the host Saskatchewan Huskies at no. 5.
