Three members of the four-time national champion Lancer women’s basketball team will suit up for head coach Chantal Vallée on Saturday, May 3, as Western University plays host to the seventh annual Ontario University Athletics all-star game. The game is slated for 8 p.m. from Alumni Hall and admission is free.
Vallée, named coach of the year by Canadian Interuniversity Sport, will lead an OUA West squad that will boast three-time OUA and CIS defensive player of the year Miah-Marie Langlois, 2011 BLG award recipient Jessica Clemençon, and fourth-year guard Korissa Williams.
Also playing for the west division are OUA player of the year Jenny Vaughan and Melissa Rondinelli of the Western Mustangs; Joy Bellinger Award winner Hailey Milligan and Danielle Boiago of the McMaster Marauders; Lakehead guard Jylissa Williams; Guelph’s Katherine MacTavish and Laura Doyle of the Laurier Golden Hawks.
The game itself is just one of many events for the all-stars during their weekend in London. The players will host free youth basketball clinics at the YMCA of London Centre Branch on Saturday, and be on hand at gyms around London on Sunday to awards medals to participants in the U15 Girls Ontario Cup tournaments.
Soccer showcase to feature three Lancer players
Forward Mike Pio, midfielder Christian Mayorga and defender Chris Suta of the Lancer men’s soccer team will take to the pitch Sunday for an Ontario University Athletics East-West match.
The Windsor contingent will play on the west squad in the contest, which kicks off at 9:30 a.m. May 4 at the Ontario Soccer Association Centre in Vaughan, Ontario.
The event is running with the support of the Ontario Youth Soccer League and is designed to showcase Ontario University soccer to prospective student-athletes. Teams consist of all-stars and athlete representatives from across the province.
