Odette conference provides discussion forum for teachers of entrepreneurial education

The Odette School of Business recently hosted academic guests from around the world at the Odette Symposium on Entrepreneurship Training and Pedagogy.

The two-day session—chaired jointly by professor Francine Schlosser, director of research and interdisciplinary learning for the EPICentre, and Benson Honig of McMaster University’s DeGroote School of Business—provided a forum for presenters to discuss such topics as the role of the instructor in an entrepreneurial classroom; teaching topics like sustainability, business ethics and social entrepreneurship; and the effect of life stages on entrepreneurship education.

Presenters from as far away as the Netherlands, Australia and Israel each had five minutes to introduce their topic before discussion was open to the floor. UWindsor Masters candidate Nira Roy led a discussion on multi-disciplinary training with Wendy Lindsay from the University of Adelaide.

“The symposium was insightful and useful,” said Dr. Lindsay. “It was good to hear about how other experienced entrepreneurship instructors deal with teaching and learning issues and how some of the problems they face are similar to my experiences as well. The symposium was a great initiative and well worth attending.”

Odette conference attendees followed up their Windsor experience the following week by attending the Babson College Entrepreneurship Research Conference held at Western University.
