New executive chef a familiar face in campus kitchens

Paolo VasapolliThe new executive chef in Food and Catering Services is a familiar face on campus, says department head Dave McEwen. Paolo Vasapolli, the assistant manager of retail operations at the Marketplace for the last six years, will begin in the position July 1.

“Paolo’s passion for food has been instrumental in building a strong culinary team who have gained a reputation for working with international student groups, creating themed menus that reflect the culture of many of our students,” McEwen said.

Prior to joining the UWindsor staff, Vasapolli had served as a head chef in fine dining establishments and chef de cuisine for Caesars Windsor. In his new role, he will be responsible for overseeing food for all areas on campus including the department’s catering and conference division.

Drew Verdam, who had been acting in this capacity, will continue to share his culinary expertise with the department and will work alongside Vasapolli as Food Service’s sous-chef.
