An orientation session will provide information and introduce participants to the of the “Southern Ontario Smart Computing Innovation Platform” collaborative research project model.
This summer, UWindsor officially joined the Southern Ontario Smart Computing Innovation Platform (SOSCIP), a research and development consortium that pairs academic and industry researchers with advanced computing tools to fuel innovation leadership in Canada within the areas of agile computing, health, water, energy, cities, mining, advanced manufacturing, digital media and cybersecurity.

SOSCIP was established in 2012, by seven Ontario universities and IBM Canada Ltd. with a mandate to bring together academic researchers and small- and medium-sized companies to drive innovation using state-of-the-art advanced computing and big data analytics technologies.
The consortium fosters partnerships between academic and industry researchers on projects that require advanced computing resources and that have a strong potential for commercialization – expertise not available anywhere else in Canada.
Vivek Goel, Vice-President, Research and Innovation, University of Toronto and SOSCIP Board Co-Chair, says SOSCIP is pleased to announce the new relationship with UWindsor, along with two other new members, OCAD University and Seneca College. The new members will bring unique research strengths and expertise, adding diversity and depth to SOSCIP.
“As SOSCIP embarks on its exciting second phase of operations, with a focus on developing new projects with industry partners in the areas of advanced manufacturing, cybersecurity, digital media and mining, the new members will be critical strategic partners in achieving our objectives,” says Goel.
A SOSCIP team will be on campus, on Monday, September 14, to present, answer questions and consult on project ideas at an orientation session from 10 a.m. to noon in the Joyce Entrepreneurship Centre, Epic Innovation, second floor workshop room.
The session will provide information and introduce participants to the SOSCIP collaborative research project model, as well as the computing, technical and funding resources available through the program. Participants are asked to register at https://ctl2.uwindsor.ca/oris/workshops/10/#wkshp-25.
