Awards to honour human rights heroes

The UWindsor chapter of Engineers Without Borders will receive the Human Rights and Social Justice Award from the Office of Human Rights, Equity and Accessibility (OHREA) during its open house and awards ceremony, Friday, December 9, in Alumni Hall’s McPherson Lounge.

The OHREA awards recognize and celebrate the contributions made by individuals and groups who advance human rights, social justice, diversity, inclusivity, employment equity and accessibility at the University of Windsor.

This year’s other honorees include:

  • Accessibility Award to professor emeritus of social work Donald Leslie;
  • Employment Equity Award to former university librarian Gwendolyn Ebbett;
  • OHREA Award to Erica Stevens Abbitt, director of the Humanities Research Group.

The event runs from noon to 1:30 p.m. and promises beverages and finger foods. The campus community is invited; admission is by voluntary donation of items to support the Downtown Mission. See a list of urgently needed items.
