Music instructor Mike Karloff will lead a concert Sunday entitled titled “A Swing Thru Jazz Decades.”
In his first feature concert, pianist Mike Karloff will perform tunes and styles that are hallmarks of the jazz decades: the “hot jazz” 1920s, “swing era” 1930s, “bebop” 1940s, “cool jazz” 1950s, and on to today’s contemporary compositions on Sunday, September 30, in Assumption Hall’s Heritage Auditorium.
Karloff has been a member of the UWindsor music faculty since 2012 and the music director of the music theatre program at St. Clair College since 2008. For this show, titled “A Swing Thru Jazz Decades,” he will be joined by:
- bassist Paul Keller, who played with Diana Krall on her first Grammy album;
- cellist Mike Karoub, a specialist in “hot jazz” style from Detroit;
- clarinetist Janelle Reichman, featured in the Lincoln Center’s 2016 “Moonglow: the Magic of Benny Goodman”;
- trumpeter Bob Fazecash, a fellow UWindsor jazz instructor and a member of the Windsor Symphony Orchestra; and
- drummer Kevin Venney, leading local percussionist for Caesars Windsor.
The show begins at 2:30 p.m., with doors open at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $25 in advance from the Mackenzie Hall Box Office, 519-255-7600, $30 cash at the door. A portion of the proceeds will benefit scholarships for UWindsor music students. Free admission for students of the School of Creative Arts or the college’s music theatre program.
