U Sports, Canada’s national governing body of university sport, has named three Lancer alumnae among its top 100 women’s basketball players of the century.

The project, meant to celebrate 100 years of the sport, culminated Thursday — the centenary of the Queen’s Gaels and McGill Martlets meeting in the first women’s basketball game between Canadian university teams.

Windsor athletes honoured were Jessica Clemençon, Miah-Marie Langlois, and Korissa Williams. All three played on the Lancer teams that dominated the sport to capture five straight national championships from 2011 to 2015.

Clemençon, a Lancer from 2009 to 2014, won a host of individual awards in her career, culminating in a 2011 BLG Award as the country’s female athlete of the year in university sport — a school first. She won the Banner Shield as Lancer female athlete of the year in 2011 and 2013 and was a three-time all-Canadian.

Langlois, who played guard for Windsor from 2009 to 2014, won the Banner Shield in 2012 and 2013, the DeMarco Award for combining academic achievement with athletic prowess in 2014, was the national title tournament MVP a record three times and best defensive player in the country for three straight years.

Williams played on all five national championship teams — an achievement she shares only with teammate Jocelyn LaRocque. Twice MVP of the title tournament and twice the country’s defensive player of the year, she claimed the 2015 Banner Shield and that same year followed Clemençon as only the second Lancer named female athlete of the year in university sport.

The list was chosen by a committee of U Sports women’s basketball coaches and partners. Members of the Top 100 will be honoured at the national championship final, Sunday in Ottawa.
