Scholars to share research in education

In March 2020, educators and musicians Terry Sefton and Danielle Sirek founds themselves barred from classrooms and performance stages. Over the subsequent year, they engaged in a dialogue to document their experiences.

Dr. Sefton is an associate professor in the Faculty of Education; Dr. Sirek is an assistant professor at Western University.

They will trace their paths through the stages of distance and loss during the time of pandemic in a public presentation entitled “Identity, memory, and performance in the time of pandemic: A duoethnography” at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29.

Part of a series of sessions sharing research in education, Friday’s discussion will also feature librarian Scott Cowan on the subject “Learning to Play Again.” During a semester of his PhD studies, he was encouraged to focus on play rather than a traditional approach to scholarship.

“I re-discovered what it means to play and discovered learning through autoethnography,” he says. His presentation will share his journey and the critical lessons learned along the way.

The event will take place on the Zoom videoconference platform; find the link here.
