Senator to deliver workshop on building inclusive classrooms

Canadian Senator Wanda Thomas Bernard will deliver a workshop on challenging anti-Black racism by building inclusive classrooms Friday, Nov. 5.

The workshop will explore inclusive course design and diverse assessment strategies. Participants will have an opportunity to examine their unconscious bias and discomfort in dealing with anti-Black racism in the classroom, enhancing their skills to challenge anti-Black racism and foster inclusive classrooms in their teaching.

Bernard champions issues impacting African Canadians, people living with disabilities, and other marginalized populations. She is particularly invested in human rights, employment equity, and mental health. This is her second workshop following a well-received workshop last year.

The workshop will be delivered via Microsoft Teams from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and is presented by the Centre for Teaching and Learning in collaboration with the Office of Human Rights Equity and Accessibility and the Windsor University Faculty Association.
