Basketball teams ready to bounce back into action

After almost two years off the court, Lancer basketball players are eager to get back in action.

The blue and gold will open the Ontario University Athletics season on Wednesday, Nov. 3, hosting the Guelph Gryphons in the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse. The women tip off at 6 p.m. and the men at 8 p.m.

Women’s head coach Chantal Vallée has high hopes for her team, but wants players to have fun both on and off the court.

“Our goal is to grow together. We want to be better at the end more than we were at the beginning,” she says. “By the end of the year we are going to know that we got better, got stronger as a team, and that we kept having joy while competing will define a successful season.”

On the men’s side, head coach Chris Cheng says his players have missed the game.

“It feels great to get back to the swing of things and being around the team on and off the floor,” he says. “This whole pandemic really challenged us, as it has with many, but it also gave us an opportunity to further appreciate the sport we love.”
