Ruby Shah has experienced her share of peaks and valleys in life, but would undoubtedly tell you it was those low points that bolstered her resiliency and provided her with the tenacity it would take to pursue her vision of becoming a community-minded social worker one day.

Preliminary renderings of the University of Windsor’s downtown campus were revealed by president Alan Wildeman during a media conference Wednesday, April 17, in the Windsor Armouries.
“The University of Windsor is creating new spaces where our students, faculty and staff can be engaged in innovative teaching, learning and discovery, and where they can more effectively partner with the arts community and social agencies to make a difference,” Dr. Wildeman said.
It’s one of life’s most difficult subjects and many dance around it or don’t even talk about it at all, but Bonnie Pacuta thinks it’s time for people start openly discussing what the end of their lives will look like.
Growing up in a region of the world that’s steeped in the ancient traditions of Confucianism, Sung Hyun Yun never gave it a second thought when his mother explained to him that he didn’t need to be in the kitchen helping with the dishes because he was a boy.
“It was very natural to accept gender-based norms and behaviour,” said Dr. Yun, a professor in the School of Social Work, who was born and raised in Busan, South Korea’s second-largest city.

The local branch of the Ontario Association of Social Workers is hosting an information fair on campus Tuesday to bring service agencies and students together.
The event is free to students, says the association’s treasurer, Derek Conliffe.
“It provides a networking opportunity for students and agencies in Windsor and Essex County to come out and talk about the many services the agencies provide in the area,” he said.
It runs 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 6 in the CAW Student Centre’s Ambassador Auditorium, and offers free refreshments.
Elizabeth Donnelly is quite the matchmaker. The assistant professor of social work matched all the correct answer in yesterday’s DailyNews trivia contest, winning two tickets to see the University Players production of Emma.
Dr. Donnelly’s name was drawn from all those who identified Emma Woodhouse and her true love George Knightly, as well as the film Clueless, which loosely retold their story.

The Masters of Social Work for Working Professionals program, run by the Faculty of Social Work and offered through the Centre for Executive Education, has reached a new northern milestone. University of Windsor Residence Life Manager and M.S.W. candidate Nicole Clark has broken new ground for the school in completing her required practicum placement in Whale Cove, Nunavut.
It seems only fitting that Debra Hernandez-Jozefowicz would be the featured guest on a radio show on CJAM on the same day the station is paying tribute to Joe Strummer, the former front man of the pioneering British punk band The Clash.
Not only does she conduct research on youth homelessness, an issue that was near and dear to Strummer’s 
heart, but she even quoted him in her own PhD dissertation.
The University of Windsor Board of Governors voted Tuesday to move the School of Social Work and the Centre for Executive and Professional Education (CEPE) to the Windsor Star property at the corner of Pitt and Ferry streets in downtown Windsor.
The board approved the purchase of the property after reviewing a feasibility study by CS&P Architects to reimagine the property for the University’s use. UWindsor President Alan Wildeman announced the decision Wednesday during his keynote address at the annual general meeting of the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce.
A partnership between the University of Windsor, the Windsor Essex Community Housing Corporation, Legal Assistance of Windsor, Windsor Police Service, the City of Windsor, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and residents of social housing neighbourhoods has won recognition for the coordinator of field education programs in the School of Social Work.
