Book signing a reminder that the past makes a perfect present

The past is the perfect present, says Chris Edwards.

The UWindsor grad (BA 1983, MA 1985) and his life and business partner Elaine Weeks (BA 1985) have already sold 4,000 copies of their nostalgic coffee table book, 500 Ways You Know You’re From Windsor. They will sign copies as a pre-holiday promotion at the University Bookstore kiosk in the CAW Student Centre on Wednesday, December 12, from noon to 2 p.m.

Sale to celebrate grand opening of temporary Bookstore location today

The University of Windsor Bookstore will celebrate its grand re-opening in Vanier Hall today—Monday, November 26—with a grand sale to match the occasion.

The sale features a promotion of 50 per cent off the price of books that have already been marked down.

“Here’s one example of a book,” Bookstore marketing manager Martin Deck said. “A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving that was originally priced at $22, our regular sale price being $6.99, and the final half-off price brings it to $3.50.”

There is also a new item available just for the occasion.

Bookstore kiosk offering Black Friday savings to UWindsor employees

The Friday after US Thanksgiving, known as Black Friday, is traditionally the beginning of the holiday shopping season, says Martin Deck, marketing manager of the University Bookstore.

“We wanted to find a way to honour that tradition and save our loyal customers the hassle of driving stateside to shop,” he says.

The Bookstore will offer University of Windsor faculty and staff a 10 per cent discount on all clothing and giftware at its kiosk in the CAW Student Centre for one day only—Friday, November 23—from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Whatever happened to…? Contest to measure memories

A previous contest offering the book 500 Ways You Know You’re from Windsor as a prize was so popular, DailyNews is reprising it.

The book, by UWindsor alumnus Chris Edwards (BA 1983, MA 1985) and his partner Elaine Weeks of Walkerville Publishing, is a hardbound, full-colour collection of more than 650 photographs documenting recollections and images from Windsor’s baby boomer years.

The publishers have donated a copy for today’s contest. The winner will be randomly selected from all correct responses received by 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 4.

Law library worker wins book

Marianne Grayce, a technical services assistant in the Paul Martin Law Library, knows her Windsor history—and is about to learn a little more. She won Monday’s DailyNews trivia quiz and the fabulous prize of a copy of 500 Ways You Know You’re from Windsor, a hardbound, full-colour collection of more than 650 photographs documenting some local landmarks.

Grayce’s name was drawn from all respondents who correctly identified Epps as a sporting goods store, Hi Ho as famous for its curbside service, and Columbia and St. Claire as the Bob-lo Island steamers.

Book a guide for a stroll down Windsor’s memory lane

If you remember the Elmwood Casino, Skyway Drive-In, the Kresge’s lunch counter and the music of the Big 8, UWindsor alumnus Chris Edwards (BA 1983, MA 1985) has a book for you.

He and his partner Elaine Weeks of Walkerville Publishing have produced 500 Ways You Know You’re from Windsor, a hardbound, full-colour collection of more than 650 photographs documenting some local landmarks. The University Bookstore is selling the volume for $30 and marketing manager Martin Deck says it makes a perfect gift.
