Forum to discuss Windsor’s ground-breaking research into cancer

A UWindsor biology professor is spearheading an effort to establish a global cancer research office, fostering cross-border collaboration and laying the foundation for international clinical trial access for Windsor-Essex cancer patients.

Lisa Porter is scientific director of the Windsor Cancer Research Group, a collaboration between local researchers and clinicians to strengthen cancer research programs and bridge collaborations with neighbouring cancer centres.

In a free public forum entitled “Made in Windsor: Advances in Cancer Research Right in Our Community,” Dr. Porter will discuss ground-breaking research that has the potential to benefit cancer patients both now and in the future, as well as the importance of cross-institutional partnerships in advancing research outcomes.

The one-hour event begins at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 19, in Vanier Hall’s Katzman Lounge; questions and discussion will follow the formal portion of the presentation. It is part of “Open Doors / Open Knowledge,” a national series organized by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada celebrating university-community engagement.
