University opens doors to prospective students

Touring the UWindsor campus Friday was a chance for her to learn more about what to expect from University, says Belinda Joseph. A senior at Assumption College High School planning to pursue studies in health and biomedical sciences this fall, she brought her mother and younger siblings to Spring Open House.

“I am happy to get more knowledge and learn about courses,” she said Friday as she walked through the information fair in the CAW Student Centre. “When I get more familiar, I can make better choices.”

Hundreds of visitors took tours, attended information sessions, and met with faculty and program advisors, says organizer Zora Savic of the student recruitment office.

“As the students get closer to starting university, they have more specific questions about what is waiting for them,” she says. “I know they appreciate the personal attention they can get here from our professors, addressing their individual concerns.”

Alyssa Stephens, a senior at Herman Secondary School, has an older sister already at UWindsor as a guide to the physical campus. She says she was excited about hearing from faculty: “I am looking for a more in-depth look at what to expect day-to-day in my classes.”

The open house comes at a critical time in the admissions cycle, says Lionel Walsh, assistant vice-president for North American recruitment.

“Prospects are receiving their offers of admission, and we want to make sure they see that the University of Windsor is a good fit for them,” he says. “We are so pleased to have cooperation right across campus in showing these students what we have to offer.”
