Lancer athletes will work to advance the fight against cancer during their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Weekend this Friday and Saturday.
The action will begin on Friday night at the South Windsor Arena, where the women’s hockey team will host the Laurier Golden Hawks at 7:30 p.m. The weekend will continue Saturday with volleyball and basketball doubleheaders. All games are against the Nipissing Lakers at the St. Denis Centre, with volleyball playing at 1 and 3 p.m., followed by basketball at 6 and 8 p.m.
Pink Lancer T-shirts, toques, grocery bags, and water bottles will be for sale at all these events. Proceeds will benefit the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation through the Shoot for the Cure initiative. The Lancers will also be collecting donations at the ticket booth.
The basketball teams open the weekend Friday with games against the Laurentian Voyageurs. Tip-off at the St. Denis Centre is 6 p.m. for the women and 8 p.m. for the men.
Volleyball will wrap up the home set Sunday, hosting the York Lions for a pair of matches. The women play at 1 p.m. and the men at 3 p.m.
The track and field athletes, with the men currently ranked first and the women sixth in Canadian Interuniversity Sport, will head to Ohio this weekend to compete in the Akron Invitational meet.
The men’s hockey squad will hit the road to face off against the Brock Badgers on Friday and the Western Mustangs on Saturday.
