The Office of Public Affairs and Communications this week welcomed a new writer to tell the stories of faculty and students doing innovative research on campus.

Research communications co-ordinator Sarah Sacheli is an award-winning journalist who last wore the hats of justice reporter, editorial page editor, copy editor, and web editor at the Windsor Star.

Her long reporting career has taken her to the Supreme Court of Canada, to the depths of the North Atlantic in a Canadian military submarine and to rooster crowing contests at county fairs. She has won awards for business writing, municipal affairs reporting, feature writing, and beat reporting, and has received a Michener Award Citation of Merit from the Governor General of Canada for public service journalism.

While new to PAC, Sacheli is not new to campus. She has taught a course in Media Law and Ethics for the past five years as a sessional instructor.

Earlier in her career, Sacheli was an education reporter and she wrote many stories about research at the University of Windsor.

“I’m looking forward to doing those types of stories again,” she said. “It’s fascinating work to be able to translate complex information into language easily digestible for a larger audience. I can help all the brilliant minds on campus get the public recognition they deserve.”

Sacheli is a self-described “Twitter queen,” and encourages the campus community to follow her on social media. She will help get researchers’ stories out that way, too.
