Members of the University of Windsor community have joined the Women’s Enterprise Skills Training of Windsor Inc. (WEST) to celebrate International Women’s Day.
Karen Pillon, associate university librarian at Leddy Library, and Kaye Johnson, executive director in the Office of Human Rights, Equity, and Accessibility, joined WEST and other community leaders in Windsor-Essex to put their best face forward for the “Windsor-Essex Working Together to Balance for Better” campaign photoshoot.
The resulting photographs will be shared on social media during the month of March. The campaign encourages individuals to participate in recognizing International Women’s Day by taking pictures of themselves striking the “Balance for Better” pose and sharing it via social media using hashtags #balanceforbetter and #WESTIWD2019.
“We chose Balance for Better for the theme this year because as a community, we need to continue to work together to create a society that is committed and active in building a gender-balanced world,” said WEST programs manager Stephanie Lyanga.
WEST will observe International Women’s Day on Friday, March 8, with its annual gala at St. Clair Centre for Arts, where UWindsor MSW/JD student, Lacy Carty, will be honoured with the Sisterhood Award that recognizes a strong female leader in the local community.
For more information about the gala, contact the WEST office at 519-256-6621, or visit www.westofwindsor.com. Tickets are $85 per person. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.; the program starts at 6:30 p.m.
