World premiere performance to highlight choral program

The world premiere of a new work by UWindsor professor Brent Lee is on the program for the Spring Choral Concert featuring the UWindsor Chamber Choir, University Singers, and the SoCA High School Honour Choir, Friday in Assumption Hall’s Heritage Auditorium.

Dr. Lee’s composition, I know the song that Luna sings, is performed without instrumental accompaniment.

“It’s an a capella work for six-part chorus that uses shifts in vocal colour and rhythm to create a nocturnal atmosphere from which a joyful song emerges,” he says. “I look forward to hearing what the choir has done with this new piece.”

Joining it on the program are an original piece by music student David Katich-McNamara, entitled Adorate Deus; works by Mendelssohn; three movements from Mozart’s Requiem; traditional French-Canadian folksongs; and songs by Carly Simon and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Choir director Bruce Kotowich will lead the UWindsor groups, while Elspeth Maynard conducts the high school ensemble.

The April 5 concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 with a student rate of $5. Find more information, including the full program and list of performers, on the event website.
