Volunteers sought for community event

Lancer Recreation will run fitness classes and games, law students will share information about drafting a will, the Faculty of Engineering will display design projects, Let’s Talk Science will teach kids about oceans, and the Campus Community Garden will serve mint tea — and there are eight more kilometres of activities besides during Open Streets Windsor on Sunday, Sept. 22.

Now in its fourth year, the community festival promises an 8-kilometre route closed to vehicular traffic from Sandwich Towne to Ford City. Citizens will walk, jog, bicycle, or roll from Drouillard Road to Brock Street, enjoying healthy and fun community building along the way.

Campus organizations will head up a University Hub located on Riverside Drive by Assumption Park, says Mary-Ann Rennie, special events manager in the Office of the President.

“Groups interested in participating can contact me to reserve space, tables, and chairs, and register for a free lunch sponsored by president Robert Gordon,” she says.

The commitment is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., plus set-up and teardown times. To inquire, email Rennie at mrennie@uwindsor.ca.

Also, festival organizers need volunteers to help with everything from greeting visitors to directing traffic. Learn more and register on the event website.
