Discussion to explore care of refugees

Having left their native countries due to violence and persecution, many refugees now call Windsor home.

Sister Helen Petrimoulx, retired refugee specialist for the Roman Catholic diocese of London, will lead a discussion with volunteers who have helped resettle many newcomers to the area in a free public event Monday, April 3, entitled “I was a stranger and you welcomed me.”

Speakers will share their experiences providing care to refugees, and consider how to join these new neighbours in building a better community for all.

Quilt display celebrates half-century of solidarity

A giant quilt adding squares as it travels through the country will make a stop Wednesday on the UWindsor campus.

The “Quilt of Solidarity” is a project of Development and Peace, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the official international development organization of the Catholic Church in Canada. Each diocese affixes a patch to the quilt as it passes through on its cross-country pilgrimage.

All Christians have missionary role: lecturer

Every baptized person has a call to mission, says Anthony Gittins, a professor emeritus at Chicago’s Catholic Theological Union.

He will explore the implications of this position in his lecture “A Missional Parish: Urgent Necessity for every Christian Community,” at 7 p.m. Monday, September 26, in Corpus Christi Church, 1400 Cabana Road West.
