Lancers to McDonalds charity day: we’re lovin’ it

Lancer coaches and athletes turned out May 2 to volunteer for McHappy Day, the annual fundraising event that sees McDonald’s restaurants across the country donate a portion of the day’s sales to local children’s charities.

Special guests, sports and media personalities, politicians and professional entertainers greeted and served customers to help raise money for Ronald McDonald House, which provides families of sick children a home-away-from-home or a place of peace and calm within a hospital.

Lancer football coach selected as province’s best

Ontario University Athletics named Joe D’Amore, interim head coach of Lancer football, its coach of the year in the sport Thursday.

D’Amore was a team captain for the Lancers in his playing days. He returned to the team in 2010 as the recruiting coordinator and receivers coach. This season he stepped into the head coach position and led the team to its most successful season since 2006, going five and three and defeating the a quarterfinal opponent to make it to the second round of the playoffs.

Lancer football readying for greatest test of season so far

The Lancer football team, currently ranked 10th in Canadian Interuniversity Sport, looks to build on its successful start this weekend as it hosts the No. 7 McMaster Marauders on Alumni Field.

Two straight wins to open the season earned the Lancers their first CIS Top 10 ranking since 2006.

Lancers win football season opener, 38-5 over Toronto

Lancer Shea Pierre ran back the opening kickoff 104 yards for a touchdown and set the tone for a 38-5 Windsor rout of the Toronto Varsity Blues in football action Monday at the south campus stadium.

Interim head coach Joe D'Amore shared quarterbacking duties between Sam Malian and Austin Kennedy. Malian completed 12 of 19 passes for 107 yards while Kennedy passed for 31 yards on five completions of nine attempts and ran for a touchdown.
