Former Windsor Lancer track & field athletes Melissa Bishop and Nicole Sassine have been named to the Canadian national team for the 2015 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships in Beijing, August 22 to 30.
Bishop, of Eagenville, will compete in the women's 800m while Sassine, of Windsor, will run as part of the Canadian 4x400m relay team.

Ontario University Athletics has recognized Lancers Corey Bellemore and Angelo Bortolin among its major award winners in track and field.
Bellemore received the Hec Phillips Trophy as Overall Most Valuable Performer in men's track and field after winning two gold medals at the OUA championship meet with record-setting performances in the 600- and 800-metre races. He also took an individual bronze in the 1000m and ran on the silver-medal 4x400m relay team.

Bishop (BHK 2010, B.Ed 2011) also won the female track and field athlete of the year award after becoming just the third Canadian woman ever to run the 800 metres in under two minutes and competing for Canada at the 2012 London Olympics.
Lancer Olympian Melissa Bishop will compete in the first round of the women’s 800m race, Wednesday August 8, in London’s Olympic Stadium. The top finishers will compete in semi-final heats August 9 to determine eight finalists to run in the medal round on August 11.
Wednesday’s quarter-final qualifiers begin at 6:35 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time; they will be broadcast on TSN, channel 24 on Cogeco Cable in Windsor.
Staff in the office of the registrar displayed their Olympic spirit before Friday’s opening ceremonies, dressing in patriotic red and white.
“We just wanted to show our support for all our Canadian athletes, especially (Lancer alumna) Melissa Bishop,” said acting registrar Charlene Yates.
The effort was well-received by clients, she said: “We’ve been getting nice comments all day—and even a few high-fives!”
