Fair contributes to faculty and staff wellness

Faculty and Staff Wellness Fair is a great idea, says Gerry Girard.

The manager of operations in Information Technology Services, he was one of about 200 UWindsor employees to visit the fair, Tuesday in the Ambassador Auditorium.

“There is a lot of good information here on subjects relevant to where I am in my life right now,” he said.

More than 20 stations offered attendees everything from a reading of their blood pressure to a free massage. Fourth-year nursing students Kelsi Mayne and Mia Milivojevic were conducting tests of digital music players to determine whether their volume levels were consistent with safe listening.

“Hearing loss is a huge problem in the university population,” said Milivojevic. “People don’t notice they are going deaf until they’ve lost up to half their hearing.”

Organizer Marcela Ciampa, manager of employee engagement and development in the Department of Human Resources, said she received only positive remarks from the staff and faculty members who visited the fair.

“I think people appreciate the effort to show we care about their well-being,” she said.

The event also featured a draw for door prizes. The big winner was Laura Prada of the Educational Development Centre, who will receive a Kobo E-reader sponsored by the Office of the President.
