UWindsor alumna ascends to chair Board of Governors

Businessperson and UWindsor alumna Jennifer Jones (BA 1991) succeeded Martin Girash as chair of the University of Windsor’s Board of Governors, effective its meeting November 21.

She says there could be no better time to ascend to the position.

“The University of Windsor is truly experiencing a renaissance with our Campus Transformation Plan, the development of our downtown campus and the completion of the Ed Lumley Centre for Engineering Innovation this fall,” Jones says. “Our focus on the student experience remains paramount and will be truly amplified as we enter into celebrations to mark our 50th anniversary in just over a year. I look forward to sharing the excitement with our more than 100,000 alumni from around the world.”

Jones is president of Media Street Productions, a local television production company named “company of the year” by the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce. She is currently a member of the University’s Board of Governors and is immediate past chair of the Board of Directors at the Windsor-Essex Region Chamber of Commerce. She is a member of the Rotary Club of Windsor-Roseland and is a Past District Governor of Rotary District 6400.

“We are delighted to have Jennifer chair the Board of Governors during this exciting time in the University’s history,” says UWindsor president Alan Wildeman. “Her entrepreneurial skills and commitment to public service aligns with the University’s priority to build community engagement both locally and around the world.”

Board bids farewell to eight members

Girash is finishing up a nine-year term on the board, most recently serving as its chair. In addition to stints on every one of its standing committees over his tenure, he also served on the search committees for both the president and the provost and held the board’s seat on Senate.

Other board members whose terms will come to an end this year are Ahmed Abou Gharam, Lori Buchanan, Tom Burton, André Capaldi, Matthew Moroun, Katherine Quinsey and Michael Weis. Each was recognized as part of the official program during Tuesday’s board meeting.
