Work underway to create Campus Bookstore space

Progress toward relocating the Campus Bookstore to the ground floor of the CAW Student Centre is “very exciting,” says Anna Kirby, executive director of campus services.

“I can’t wait for people to see what that will look like in the fall,” she says. “They will be very pleased at what it offers to our students.”

Workers are currently clearing out the area that had been the Thirsty Scholar Pub. That space will house the bookstore, selling textbooks, school and office supplies, computers and computer supplies, UWindsor- and Lancer-themed apparel and a wide array of giftware.

Slated for opening in the fall, the store will offer patrons reasons to visit more often than once a semester to load up on required books, says Kirby.

“The new space will have the flexibility to change displays with the season,” she says. “It will be bright and welcoming and will give a higher profile to our spirit wear, as well as hosting more events and even offering places for students to gather and work.”

The area also includes space reserved for the University of Windsor Students’ Alliance, which plans to re-establish a restaurant that will be licensed to serve alcohol. Planning is still in the early stages, says UWSA president Kimberley Orr.

“We are looking at a bunch of different options,” she says. “But we are definitely looking to put something in there to replace the services previously offered by the Thirsty Scholar.”

The demolition of the former pub will clear about 13,000 square feet of space on the ground floor of the CAW Student Centre.
