Canvassers preparing to launch employee fundraising campaign

UWindsor faculty and staff members can expect a knock at their office doors soon, as colleagues volunteering with the Annual Giving campaign canvass for support.

Volunteers received training and canvass kits in sessions Monday and Tuesday. This year’s theme is “Branching Out: the Roots of Student Success,” reflecting a new component of campaign, says chair Bruce Tucker.

“This year, we will be planting 50 trees on campus, representing the 50 years of service to the University contributed by our faculty and staff,” he says. “It will serve to beautify our campus while providing a lasting reminder of the generous donations by supporters of the campaign.”

Development officer Mona Dosen says the trees have been donated, so as always, the entire amount of every gift benefits the area specified by each donor.

“It is important to us that our employees know that 100 percent of the money they donate goes directly to the area they want to support,” she says.

Among the priorities identified this year is investing in a 50th Anniversary Scholarship fund that will support students and enhance their academic potential, as well as celebrate the University’s golden anniversary.

“Our goal is to establish a $100,000 endowment,” Dosen says. “Anyone working on campus knows that scholarships truly make a difference in the life of a student, allowing them to focus on their studies and achieve their goals.”

Employees may contribute to the Annual Giving campaign by payroll deduction, making donations virtually painless. For more information, call Dosen at 519-253-3000, ext. 4279.
