Win sends Lancers to men’s basketball quarter-finals

The Lancer men’s basketball team will head to Hamilton to play the McMaster Marauders in an Ontario University Athletics quarter-final Saturday, after topping the Toronto Varsity Blues 85-71 Wednesday night at the St. Denis Centre to open the playoffs.

Rotimi Osuntola Jr. contributed a game-high 22 points and 18 rebounds; fifth-year players Evan Matthews, with 15, and Khalid Abdel-Gabar, with 12, also scored in double digits for Windsor. Read a full game recap at goLancers.ca.

Saturday’s game will be webcast live on oua.tv starting at 3 p.m. It will be a battle of national contenders; the Lancers are ranked fifth in Canadian Interuniversity Sport, while McMaster is one spot higher at No. 4.

Men’s hockey squad drops game one

The Lancer men’s hockey team lost the first game of its best-of-three divisional final Wednesday, 3-1 to the Guelph Gryphons at South Windsor Arena. Ryan Green scored the Lancers’ lone goal. Read “Men’s hockey drops game one to Gryphons.”

Windsor will look to even the series as it moves to Guelph on Friday. The puck will drop at 7:30 p.m. and fans can watch live on oua.tv. Game three will take place in Windsor on Saturday evening, if necessary.

Track teams chasing titles at provincial meet

Both the men’s and women’s track and field teams are ranked among the nation’s best heading into this weekend’s OUA championship tournament in Toronto. The CIS has Windsor’s men at No. 1 and women at No. 7. York University will host the meet, which runs Friday and Saturday.

Women cagers to open post-season against Varsity Blues

The Lancer women’s basketball team will start its campaign for a fifth-straight national title Saturday, when it hosts the Toronto Varsity Blues at the St. Denis Centre. Game time is 6 p.m. Windsor held top ranking in the CIS through the season. Toronto beat the Brock Badgers 77-61 Wednesday to qualify for the quarter-final.
