A record-setting performance by the 4x800m relay squad helped the Lancer men finish third in the team standings at the OUA track and field championship meet at York University on the weekend; the women finished fourth overall.

Windsor’s Paul La Marra, Taylor McArthur, Corey Bellemore and Alex Ullman raced to a 7:30.61 finish in the 4x800m event, shaving almost four seconds off the previous meet record. Ullman also won gold in the men’s 1000m; Bellemore took the bronze medal in that race and gold in the 600m. The two also ran on the silver-medal 4x400m team, along with Jesse Drennan and Matt McLaughlin. Other Lancer silver medallists included Chris Waugh in pole vault, Branden Wilhelm in high jump and Arren Young in long jump. Wilhelm won bronze in long jump, as did Matthew Brisson in 60m hurdles and Angelo Bortolin in triple jump.

The Lancer team’s total of 135 points put it just behind second-place York with 135.5. Guelph finished atop the standings with 157.5 points.

The women brought home a bevy of silver medals: Sarah Swain in pole vault and 60m hurdles, Virginia McLachlan in the 60m ambulatory race, Emily Omahen in long jump, and rookie Sarah Mitton in shot put.
