Resident students make a difference on H.E.R.O Day…

“We are so proud of our student volunteers and grateful for the staff volunteers from the Student Success Centre who donated their time to this worthwhile annual feel good day.” expressed Sandra Davis Residence Life Team Leader.

Resident students had the opportunity to participate in a food drive to collect food items from the local community. The H.E.R.O day of action is run by volunteering resident students, and does not only supplies the food bank with the donations it collects, but also provides the students, especially those from out of Windsor, with a chance  to form ties with other members of the community.

“This is a way for students who are not originally from the Windsor area to become engaged with their community, and that is really the foundation that HERO has developed into,” says Jacqueline Mellish, the Residence Life Coordinator for Alumni Hall and Clarke Hall.

Over 120 volunteers arrived in two lancer buses on March 28, at Paulin Memorial Church, and marched through the neighborhood asking for donations, achieving exceptional results. “We received notice this week that we collected 16,700 lbs of food this year! This is almost three times above what was collected last year!” reports Davis. Being able to achieve this result, the team is now motivated to raise the bar even further next year.
