As Sunday, December 6, marks the 26th anniversary of the massacre that took place at L'Ecole Polytechnique in 1989, the Womyn’s Centre will hold a memorial service as well as a screening of the film Polytechnique this weekend. Both are free and open to all members of the University and Windsor-Essex County communities.
On Friday, December 4, the Engineering Society and Women in Engineering will host the screening of Polytechnique at 4 p.m. in room 1101, Centre for Engineering Innovation.
At 4 p.m. Sunday, December 6, a candlelight vigil will take place at the Memorial of Hope between Dillon and Essex halls. This will be followed by a reception in Katzman Lounge, located in Vanier Hall. The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women honours the 14 female engineering students killed 26 years ago.
Organizers suggest that those who purchased a purple scarf from the Shine the Light Campaign wear them as symbols of awareness of domestic violence and violence against women.
