Law alumni honoured for early career accomplishments

Acting dean of law Christopher Waters says he is thrilled, but not surprised, to learn that nine of the 59 lawyers named to Lexpert’s 2015 Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40 list are Windsor Law alumni.

Recipients were recognized for their accomplishments within the legal profession, as well as their contributions beyond their own careers at a gala dinner and awards presentation on November 19 at Toronto’s Fairmont Royal York Hotel.

Alumni honorees include:

  • Rebecca Bush 2001
  • Karen Hennessey 2004
  • Ryan Jacobs 2003
  • Rebecca Kacaba 2006
  • Sunita Mahant 2005
  • Timothy McCormick 2005
  • Sundeep Sandhu 2006
  • Kadey Schultz 1999
  • Jay Strosberg 2001

“Windsor is overrepresented on this list,” says professor Waters. “There are two dozen law schools in Canada, yet almost one out of six lawyers on the list are our grads. What impresses me most is that these lawyers are not only top in their field—advocates and transaction lawyers alike—but they are heavily involved in pro bono work in their communities.”

Award criteria include an outstanding track record of success relative to professional peers; community involvement and leadership in pro bono and professional or other organizations; demonstrated value to employers; excellent client service and care; demonstrated ability to focus on central legal issues of clients; ability to be a change leader; and respectful and civil dealings with colleagues.
