Research group pulls together think tank on cancer

Participants from academe, health care and private industry came together July 15 for a think tank session organized by the Windsor Cancer Research Group.

The second event of its kind, it focused on building research collaborations and increasing the number of submissions for grant funding in the field.

About 25 representatives from the University of Windsor, Windsor Regional Hospital, Cross Border Institute, ITOS Oncology, and Henry Ford Health System discussed three topics:

  • Cell cycle targeting in multiple myeloma
  • Neurotransmitter receptors in brain cancer
  • Survivors’ experience as they return to work

Feedback from the attendees indicated they appreciated the opportunity to network and meet future collaborators, said Karen Metcalfe, assistant director of the Windsor Cancer Research Group.

“We know these individuals find their time together extremely productive and are looking forward to moving discussions forward over the next few months,” she said.

The next think tank event is set for October 14. For more information, contact Metcalfe at karenmet@uwindsor.ca.
