All Christians have missionary role: lecturer

Every baptized person has a call to mission, says Anthony Gittins, a professor emeritus at Chicago’s Catholic Theological Union.

He will explore the implications of this position in his lecture “A Missional Parish: Urgent Necessity for every Christian Community,” at 7 p.m. Monday, September 26, in Corpus Christi Church, 1400 Cabana Road West.

“Pope Francis has repeatedly emphasized that parishes must seek encounters at and beyond their boundaries,” Dr. Gittins says. “The word ‘missional’ was coined in order to point to the fact that the word ‘missionary’ should not refer to clergy or sisters who spend decades overseas.”

His presentation is free and open to the public as part of Assumption University’s Christian Culture Series.
