Orchestra opens Friday dress rehearsal to audience

A dress rehearsal Friday, February 2, will give audiences a sneak preview of the Windsor Symphony Orchestra’s “opera in concert” production of The Marriage of Figaro.

The all-star cast includes a UWindsor music student, soprano Emily Houchen, as Barbarina, and choir director Bruce Kotowich as Antonio — in addition to leading the University of Windsor Chamber Choir and University Singers.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s comic Marriage of Figaro is a fantastic farce continuing the story of characters from The Barber of Seville. Plots thicken, schemes are devised, and hilarity ensues.

Saturday’s performance sold out, so the orchestra has opened its final rehearsal. Note: this is a working dress rehearsal, so pieces may not be performed in order and there will be stops and starts. Of course, from an educational point of view, these behind-the-scenes details add to the experience.

The event is set for 7 p.m. at the Capitol Theatre, 121 University Avenue West. Admission is $5 at the door.
