Arts and invention take stage at African culture festival

AfroFest, a weeklong celebration of the culture of Africa and its diaspora, continues through the week with events in the CAW Student Centre.

The line-up for Thursday, February 8, includes exhibits of works by Black photographers, books by Black authors, and the contributions of Black inventors; a workshop at 6:20 p.m. by artist Devyn Springer; and a discussion on masculinity. An info session on shea butter and essential oils starts at 3 p.m. in Alumni Auditorium; admission is $5.

Friday’s agenda opens with a sushi-making session with the Campus Pride Centre at 1 p.m. and continues with a 2:40 p.m. workshop on starting a business, and a painting activity incorporating the Adinkra symbols of the Asante and Akan peoples of Ghana at 3:40 p.m.

The closing celebration is a talent show at 8 p.m. in the Hum. Tickets are $10 in advance, $20 at the door.
