Overdue fines to benefit campus food bank

The Leddy Library is hoping to fill shelves with more than just books, partnering with the Campus Food Bank to stock its cupboards with food for students in need.

The library will donate a portion of overdue fines it collects this semester to the food bank administered by Iona College in the basement of Canterbury College.

“When you pay your fines, you’ll be contributing to helping your fellow students,” says librarian Dave Johnston.

He says that making a monetary contribution to the food bank allows organizers to purchase whatever goods are in greatest demand.

“We want them to have the flexibility to meet the needs of their student users,” Johnston says.
