The transition from the current Student Information System to UWinsite Student will necessitate moving the latter to read-only format during the week of Nov. 19.
UWinsite Student will go live Nov. 26, replacing the Frank L. Smith Student Information System which is commonly known on campus as SIS, Forte, or myUWindsor.ca.
Preparations for the launch will include a cutover period from the design, build, and test stage of the new platform to its real-life operation. From this time forward, no new data can be entered into the old system.
The team behind UWinsite Student is working to minimize the number of business days required for the cutover, says Alice Miller, University Registrar and lead on the project.
“We know how vital our student information system is to our colleagues and operations across campus and want to keep the interruption as short as possible,” she says.
Miller encourages faculties, departments, and administrative areas that use SIS to consider the type of data they would typically input into the system in mid-to-late November and come up with alternative methods to track it until UWinsite Student launches.
When UWinsite Student goes live on Nov. 26, data from the cutover period can be input. SIS, meanwhile, will no longer be accessible to the majority of campus. All data will have been converted into UWinsite Student and information in SIS will become increasingly out-of-date.
