Big bands to get joint jumping Friday

The School of Creative Arts will host a big band dance in the Armouries on Friday, March 29, as the Jazz Cabaret features performances by the University Jazz Ensemble and SoCA High School Honour Jazz Ensemble.

Bob Fazecash will direct both groups through a program of dance music that will have audience members kicking up their heels. The venue boasts a dance floor as well as cocktail tables and some seating.

The event promises a cash bar and snacks and begins at 8 p.m. Admission is $20 with a student rate of $5. Find a full list of performers on the concert website.

The building is also hosting the free public closing reception for Sidney Hick’s exhibition “Get Some Sleep,” starting at 5 p.m. in the SoCA Gallery with live music by Greg Williams.

And finally, starting at 8 p.m., students of professor Sigi Torinus will create real-time visual performance, or VJing.

The SoCA Armouries is located at 37 University Ave. E.
