Campus volunteers gearing up for United Way campaign

A lunch-and-learn session Friday helped to recruit campus champions for the United Way, says campaign co-chair Sheri Lowrie.

“We had a great initial event and look forward to engaging the entire UWindsor community in our efforts to raise awareness and money for this important charitable cause,” she says.

“Our volunteers are already busy distributing pledge cards this week, and we hope everyone will consider supporting the United Way’s work to reduce poverty, support children and families, and build strong communities.”

A flag-raising ceremony on Monday, Nov. 4, will serve as the formal launch to the campaign. Officials will raise the charity’s flag on the west terrace outside Chrysler Hall Tower beginning at 10 a.m. The event will also feature free coffee and doughnut bites and will relocate to the Welcome Centre in case of inclement weather.

University of Windsor employees in attendance have a chance to win an extra day’s vacation. All donors will be entered into a prize draw offering another vacation day, a six-month campus parking pass, a one-year membership to the Forge Fitness Centre, and tickets to University Players performances and concerts by the School of Creative Arts.

Lowrie says another popular event will return: the Great Faculty Soup-off will offer a taste of eight soups for $8 in the student centre during lunch on Nov. 26.
