Online workshop series to promote youth climate action

The Windsor Law Centre for Cities will host an online workshop series targeting Canadian youth interested in climate action in their own communities.

Led by Windsor Law professor Anneke Smit, director of the Centre for Cities, the weekly workshops are broadcast over Zoom every Thursday and feature special guests offering diverse approaches to climate action and insights into engaging with city-level governance. The series is part of the Cities & Climate Action Forum project, funded by Environment and Climate Change Canada.

“Every week we have special guests to help youth explore a different topic related to working for effective climate policy action in their own communities,” says Smit. “Connecting with experts and with other climate-engaged youth is paramount to promoting climate action.”

Smit notes that there is no shortage of webinars on climate issues, but that this series is geared specifically at young people at a time when they are at home and looking for ways to stay engaged.

Today’s 10 a.m. workshop will welcome CBC’s Jonathan Pinto, reporter and editor on the Afternoon Drive, and the University of Windsor’s Sarah Sacheli, research communications co-ordinator in the Office of Public Affairs and Communication. The workshop will explore strategies for working with the media to get climate messages out.

Youth are encouraged to register on the Centre for Cities website and stay tuned for updates to the weekly schedule. Follow the Windsor Law Centre for Cities’ Cities & Climate Action Forum on social media @CityClimateAct.
