International Trade and Border Management Program on offer this fall

The International Trade and Border Management Program will return this fall to the University of Windsor. The program will be delivered by UWindsor Continuing Education in partnership with the Cross-Border Institute (CBI), and will provide access to the most up-to-date thinking and discussions related to international trade, cross-border issues and real-time analysis.

The program is comprised of four modules and provides a comprehensive framework for managing export, import, and border processes from the perspectives of both trading firms and government agencies delivered by acknowledged experts. Participants with a fundamental knowledge of trade rules, logistics, border operations, and cross-border finance will benefit from taking individual modules to strengthen specific knowledge in each area, where dealing with complexities and changing policies have impacted the way trade across borders has fundamentally changed.

Participants can enroll in an individual module, a single certificate comprised of two modules, or complete both certificates to achieve a Certificate in Advanced International Trade and Border Management.

“Understanding how trade activity is conducted and how it has changed across borders especially during the pandemic is critical for those who work in trade and cross-border related areas,” said Bill Anderson, Instructor and Assistant VP of Innovation in Cross-Border Strategies.

“We have designed and continuously updated this program from the level of the individual student, where they will learn both the practical skills, and how cross-border trade is crucial to the Canadian economy."

Laurie Tannous, Instructor and Special Advisor to the Cross-Border Institute says topics being taught are not taught in accounting or finance and reflect how cross-border activities have changed. Getting to know the nuances of trade agreements, policies and best practices is most beneficial to those who work in roles that require some level of understanding of trade logistics.

“For the amount of time and flexibility that this program offers, it provides a learner with a new skillset that they can use to benefit themselves in the workplace.”

The program is open to individuals interested in cross-border management and is online with self-paced learning. Applicants may be eligible for OSAP Micro-credentials application.

Foundations of International Trade starts September 20 and is now open for registration.
