Men’s volleyball squad sweeps into second round

The Lancer men’s volleyball team advanced to the second round of Ontario University Athletics playoffs after sweeping the Waterloo Warriors 3-0 Wednesday at the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse. Read a recap of the match at goLancers.ca.

The squad will next head to Hamilton for a quarter-final meeting with the McMaster Marauders on Saturday, March 12. Game time is 8 p.m.

COVID-19 protocols forced the cancellation Wednesday of the women’s hockey first-round contest, meaning Windsor forfeited to advance the Western Mustangs to the next round.

In other varsity action, basketball will close out its regular season with doubleheaders against the Algoma Thunderbirds at the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse on March 11 and 12. The women play at 6 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday; the men will play at 8 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday.

The men’s hockey team, currently ranked ninth nationally, will be in Guelph for a pair of games March 12 and 13. Lancers and Gryphons will face off Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

The UWindsor men’s and women’s teams in track and field are also ranked ninth by U Sports. Athletes will compete Friday in the York Last Chance Meet in Toronto in preparation for the provincial championship meet the following weekend.
